Senior Day and our last conference games

Well this week had its ups and downs. Wednesday was our senior day. We have 8 seniors on the team so it was a pretty big deal. We lost the 1st game but came back and won the 2nd. LVC was ranked 23rd in the country, so splitting with them was very good for our team. Below are some of the pics from senior day.

These are all of the seniors, and behind them is a poster we spray with all of their numbers on it.

This is the whole team behind our dug out.

This is Brennan hugging coach when her name got announced.

2 of our seniors, Sara and Shelly are standing on the line with their parents next to them.

Yesterday we had our last games against a conference team, Moravian. We lost both games and we only needed to win won to secure home field advantage during playoffs. But we will be at Moravian this upcoming weekend for playoffs and hopefully we can come back and win.

The good and the bad.

So on the good side, we swept Drew this past weekend. Both of our pitchers pitched shut outs, meaning the other did not score in either game. On the bad side, we earned a split against Scranton. We are now 9-1 in the conference and 26-6 overall. Moravian is also 9-1 in the conference so the number 1 seed is going to be determined this weekend when we play Moravian. Below are pictures from the past 4 games.

Today is our senior day, games against Lebanon Valley. Stay tuned to see how we do today and this weekend.

Rain, rain and more rain.

This week we only had two games and we won both, improving our record to 21-5. The games were against Wilkes. Our other double header was supposed to be against conference opponent, Drew, but because of the rain, those games had to be postponed. Our field is never going to be dry, and there is even more rain in the forecast. We are going to have a lot of games in the upcoming weeks.

A picture taken of Drew's field after all the rain that fell.

We might have to play these games on Easter Monday, but I really hope we don't because that means we will get no Easter break at all. We are supposed to have two conference double headers this upcoming week against Juniata and Scranton. Drew's games might be in there too so we are going to have to work hard this week to a playoff bid which we are close to being 4-0 in conference play thus far.

11 in a row, but nothing lasts forever.

The SU softball team suffered its first loss in 11 games on monday against Elizabethtown. We won the first game 3-0 due to a rally in the 6th inning which scored 3 runs. We lost the second game 5-4 , dispite a last effort in the 7th inning where we scored 2 runs to come within one but it just wasn't enough. I think it is a good thing that we lost. Last year we had a win streak of 19 games and when we lost we did not know what to do. So I think losing will make us better in the end. We have a double header against Wilkes today and one against Drew on Saturday. Stay tuned to see how we bounce back.

make that 10 in a row.

Today, the SU softball team improved its record to 18-4 and increased its win streak to 10 with a two game sweep of Gettysburg. We only won the first game 1-0 even though we had eight hits through out that game. Our bats really came alive in the second game which we won 7-2. Our ace pitcher, Cara Swerdlow broke some records today. She tossed a four-hit shutout and in the process became Susquehanna’s all-time winningest pitcher as she now has 45 victories over her four-year career. Below is a picture of her after the game with our head coach.

Congrats Cara!

Stayed tuned for next weeks double headers against Elizabethtown, Wilkes and Drew.

8 in a row!

We have won 8 games in a row and improved our record to 16-4 with a conference sweep of Cathloic this past weekend. We won the games 6-4 and 3-0. We hope to be on the NCAA Top 25 list soon and these wins definantly helped.

Below are some pictures from the Live Pink game from a week ago.

This is a picture of our team huddle from above.

This is Lisa Finizio about to drop down a bunt.

This is Brennan up to bat and the other teams catcher can be seen as well.

This week we have games on Wednesday and Thursday. They are against Miseracordia and Gettysburg, both teams are not in our conference. They will still be good games. Go SU!

Another set of great games

This week we had out LIVE PINK games against Lycoming to support breast cancer. We won both games yesterday. The first one we won 5-0 and the second game we won 2-1. Both games were very close going into the closing innings and we managed to pull both out. Right now we are on a 6 game win streak and our record has improved to 14-4.

Two of our players also swept the landmark conference players of the week. Here is a picture of the two of them, Cara and Shelly.

The next picture is of some of the team at the Live Pink games yesterday

Tomorrow we have a double header against Gettsyburg and on saturday we have a double header against Catholic. Stayed tuned for what happens during those games!

First home games of the season

We won our first home games on tuesday against dickinson! One of our pitchers, Cara Swerdlow, pitched a no hitter in the first game.
This is Cara pitching.

Right now we are 10-4. We have a double header tomorrow against Merchant Marine. These are going to be our first conference games of the season. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 38 degrees! It is going to be freezing. But I guess that's what I get for playing softball in central PA. Stayed tuned to see how the games turn out tomorrow!

In Florida, we won 6 games and lost 2 games. It was a great trip and the team had a lot of fun. We had awesome weather besides the last day of the trip which was our day off. Unfortunately we are now back in central Pennsylvania and its freezing as usual.  We have games tomorrow and Saturday. An update will be coming on how those games go.

Flo-rida so soon!

This is our last week of indoor practices! hopefully. We're leaving for Florida this Friday at 3am! We are playing 8 games while in Florida. We also get two days to go to the Disney parks. The team is staying in the Disney All Star Sports Resort. It's about a ten minute drive to the All Star Sports complex where we will be playing all of our games. The braves play their spring training in the All Star Sports complex. This year they don't play the Phillies though while we are down in Florida. Last year we got to see them play the Phillies and it was so cool. Stay tuned to the next post which will be after Florida and there will be lots of pictures!

My last week of 6am's ever

This is my last week of 6am's. Next year I will be student teaching during them and will have to miss them. We've been live hitting more , which means that the pitchers throw us pitches and we hit. We use half of the field house to do this. We still do a lot of hitting stations though , but we can listen to music now which is pretty fun. Here are some more pictures of my teammates.

These are two of our catchers catching the pitchers as they warm up.

We have practice uniforms that we wear everyday and this is one of my teammates, shelly , getting her practice gear out of the bin.

Outside! Finally!

This week we finally got to practice outside! It's been in the 50's all week and today it is supposed to get up to 60! This is such a tease though. Next week it will probably snow again and we won't be able to go outside for a while.

We only have 2 weeks until Florida! I can't wait. This trip we are going to do a scavenger hunt in Disney World on the one day that we have off. We play a total of 8 games in Florida. I checked the weather and it is in the 70's! I am so excited.

Just another week inside

Our indoor practices continue. We are able to play music now in the field house! That makes the practices a lot more enjoyable. A lot of the girls have night class so they have to miss practice. It's hard to work on drills when the whole team is not there.

Here are a couple shots of my team practicing. We are doing some hitting stations. We stay at each station for 2 minutes and then coach tells us to switch.

This is Courtney and she is hitting some small yellow wiffle balls.

This is Kate and she is hitting tennis balls that are being bounced from behind her.

This is Jess and she is hitting fast balls and change ups off the pitching machine in the batting cage.

A maroon shirt and an orange shirt.

From now on, two girls are going to be awarded different color shirts to wear at practice. One is orange and the other is maroon, which differ greatly from our bland gray shirts that we have to wear.

So far an outfielder has gotten one of the shirts everyday. There are 8 outfielders including myself, out of 24 girls, so that is pretty impressive. Keep it up outfield!

One week down...

With our first week of practice done, we are no longer sore and maybe this week we can actually field and catch real balls. Last week we had a full practice where we did not use balls and we just acted like we did.

Indoor practices get old really quickly because there is only so much we can do inside. We always do hitting stations or conditioning circuits. With the snow at this rate, we will not be able to play outside until April, which could pose a problem. This week we have practice from 6-8pm. So we shall see how it goes.

6am's; here we come

This morning was our first 6am practice. It was -5 degrees outside when I left my apartment to come to campus! I'm ready for summer now, it is too cold here. It was good to see everyone and practice wasn't that bad. We got to watch it become day light through the huge glass windows in the field house. We only have 6 more weeks inside before Spring Training in Florida where we can actually practice outside on a real field!

This is the SU softball during after regionals in 2010. The shot was taken in a high building, looking down on the softball field that we just played on. The team made regionals for the first time in school history. They were located in Virginia. We were the first team in SU history to win a game at regionals so that was an awesome feat to accomplish. We graduated 3 girls and the team is looking forward to another great season this year. Our first actual practice starts this Monday, at 6am. A week of 6am's to start off our season happens every year. A great way to get into it =)

Getting started

These are pictures of me, just getting my blog started.

My new media class is starting up our blogs today. I chose to write about the Susquehanna Softball Team. I am on the team and will be following what happens with the team on here. I will be including practices, games, scores and other stuff that happens during the season. Since I am on the softball team, I will actively be involved in most of the events that I will be talking about.  I hang out with the team on the field and off the field so the posts will vary in their content.
